Support for a diverse biomedical research workforce, particularly researcher-participant concordance, has been widely accepted as a much-needed strategy to advance health outcomes among racial and ethnic and sex and gender minority communities. The benefits of employing a diverse research workforce include building trust among historically marginalized populations and support for diverse perspectives among investigative teams. In this paper, we explore intersectional challenges specific to Black women researchers in the development and implementation of HIV research, intervention, and programming efforts which include perceptions of Blackness, HIV research \"turf,\" inequitable funding, institutional difficulties hiring Black women with lived experiences, and limitations in participant connectedness following study completion.
