The disease commonly affects patients with immunocompromised states such as uncontrolled diabetes, blood disorders and organ transplantation recepients. The usual mode of management is by using antifungals such as amphotericin B and surgery in the form of debridement of the necrotic tissue. A study was conducted on patients of mucormycosis during the pre-Covid-19 and Covid-19 era to evaluate the effectiveness of the Sandwich Therapy of amphotericin B. The mortality rate was found to be 3.57% during the pre- Covid-19 period and 18.8% during the Covid-19 period. This is very low as opposed to 50% quoted by many other studies. The Sandwich Therapy as discussed above for extensive mucormycosis can be useful in curtailing the disease already established to its present location and preventing its further spread either naturally or by the act of debridement per se. The journal acts as a catalyst and mirrors the Indian Otolaryngologist’s active interests and pursuits. The Journal also invites articles from senior and experienced authors on interesting topics in Otolaryngology and allied sciences from all over the world.
The print version is distributed free to about 4000 members of Association of Otolaryngologists of India and the e-Journal shortly going to make its appearance on the Springer Board can be accessed by all the members.
Association of Otolaryngologists of India and M/s Springer India group have come together to co-publish IJOHNS from January 2007 and this bondage is going to provide an impetus to the Journal in terms of international presence and global exposure.
