To examine whether this kind of processing is driven by low-level features, 5-month-olds were tested on images in which the head was removed. Infants no longer exhibited differential scanning of typical versus reorganized bodies. Results suggest that 5-month-olds are sensitive to the location of body parts, thereby demonstrating adult-like response patterns consistent with early expertise in body processing.
