Abstract

An overwhelming majority of registered voters (89%) rank the issue of expanding access to mental health care as important, making it a top-tier issue for voters alongside lowering the cost of living for working families (96%) and making housing more affordable (88%). The statistics are the result of a national mental health poll conducted for the mental health advocacy organization, Inseparable Action, the company's news release stated. The findings are based on a nationwide online and text-to-web survey of 1,000 registered voters in English and Spanish from July 22–29, 2024. The poll found near-universal support for requiring insurance companies to improve coverage of mental health care (94%). A strong majority of registered voters also supports policies that bar companies from cutting mental health care or limiting access (83%). The poll found that 94% of respondents support requiring health plans to maintain accurate and up-to-date information for consumers about the mental health providers in their networks. The poll involved the collaboration between Impact Research, a Democratic polling firm, and Meeting Street Insights, a Republican polling firm.
