Abstract
On the basis of contact mechanics, a model of the wear in a frictional pair consisting of a diamond-bearing mineral ceramic and a ceramic is proposed. The diamond grains in the ceramic matrix are spherical segments of identical radius. The grains are distributed in the matrix according to a power law. The grinding rate and tool wear are expressed as a function of the physicomechanical properties of the two contacting materials, the roughness of the frictional surfaces, and the machining conditions.
