Abstract
July 4–6, 2024
COEX Convention and Exhibition Center,
Seoul, Korea
Dear Colleagues,
The World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) has been the voice of world endoscopy for nearly 60 years. Over this time WEO has placed great importance on its educational and internationally collaborative activities. In the past 7 years, WEO has hosted three successful World Congresses, first in Hyderabad in 2017, then in Rio de Janeiro in 2020, and most recently in 2022 in Kyoto; we are certain that we will offer an even more fruitful conference in 2024.
ENDO 2024, our fourth World Congress, has been organized jointly with the International Digestive Endoscopy Network (IDEN), and will take place from 4 to 6 July 2024 in Seoul, Korea. We sincerely appreciate the strong support of President of the Korean Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE) and IDEN, Professor Jong-Jae Park. An important milestone in the preparation for ENDO 2024 was the selection of internationally renowned experts, including Drs. Jean-Francois Rey and Don-Wan Seo as Chair and Co-Chair of the Steering Committee, and Drs. Philip Chiu and Jong Ho Moon as Chair and Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee.
We have put together a stimulating 3-day program. Highlights include 2 full days of live demonstrations from India, China, Thailand, and Korea, the provision of 20 hands-on stations, more than 20 scientific symposia, 6 joint international symposia with major partner societies, 5 WEO educational courses, and much more! We are also proud to announce that the conference includes special attention to the topic of Women in Endoscopy and to the International Outreach program that focuses on support for teaching and training on the African continent.
WEO takes great pride in supporting the next generation of endoscopists and the 4th World Congress reflects this by the award of grants to young endoscopists. Authors of top-ranked abstracts will receive ENDO 2024 grants offered by WEO, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES), the Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopology (CSDE), and the Asian-Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE). In addition, the scientific program emphasizes themes relevant to the future of endoscopy.
We would like to thank here the industry partners who are generously supporting this Congress. Without their help WEO could not organize a meeting of this magnitude. They are genuinely our partners, and we look forward to building on these relationships.
ENDO 2024 looks forward to attracting a very large number of international delegates and to welcoming the local Korean scientific community.
Dear Colleagues,
With great pleasure, we extend our heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the ENDO 2024 Scientific Committee to both our abstract submitters and reviewers for their unwavering support of the 4th World Congress of GI Endoscopy.
The response we received was truly inspiring, with a robust influx of 927 abstracts pouring in from every corner of the globe. We deeply appreciate the dedication of our faculty for evaluating each submission, providing invaluable insights. Among these contributions, three abstracts stood out for their remarkable scientific merit, earning the prestigious WEO Best Abstract Awards, while a record number of authors of another 82 outstanding abstracts were granted support from WEO and member societies. Moreover, six abstracts were heralded as Best Oral Presentations, with an additional 30 thought-provoking abstracts securing slots in the ENDO 2024 scientific program. Authors of a further 142 excellent posters will take part at the Outstanding Poster presentation sessions.
We are excited to showcase these outstanding works alongside all accepted abstracts in our dedicated e-Poster area, ensuring participants at ENDO 2024 have ample opportunity for engagement and learning.
Our global reach was evident in the diverse array of abstracts, with 76% originating from the Asia-Pacific region, 4% from the Americas, and 20% from Europe/Africa/Mediterranean regions. To each and every contributor, we extend our sincerest thanks for sharing your research. It is your collective efforts that drive the field of endoscopy forward, promising a successful ENDO 2024.
We eagerly anticipate welcoming you all to Seoul for what promises to be an enriching and memorable congress.
Warm regards,

The Way Forward for WEO – Future of Endoscopic Medicine
Speaker: Hisao Tajiri (Japan)
The predecessor of WEO was the International Society of Endoscopy (ISE), founded in 1966. At the 3rd ISE in 1974, its official name was changed to OMED. In 2010, the name of OMED was changed to “World Endoscopy Organization” (WEO), which it remains to this day. The international congress as WEO started anew in 2017. The first World Congress, ENDO 2017, was held in Hyderabad, the second (ENDO 2020) in Rio de Janeiro, and the third (ENDO 2022) in Kyoto. The fourth edition (ENDO 2024) will be held in Seoul, jointly with IDEN.
The goal of WEO is to provide safe, high-quality endoscopic medicine worldwide through endoscopic education and training activities, and we promote international academic and research activities using its global network.
WEO has been developing educational activities in developing countries in Southeast Asia and South America, and in recent years it has been actively expanding its endoscopic education and training activities to African countries, where population growth and economic development are remarkable. WEO has established training centers tailored to the local needs of African countries and plans to conduct training courses in partnership with base hospitals in India.
It has been almost 60 years since WEO was established, and especially since 1985, there have been remarkable advances in endoscopic diagnosis and treatment with the introduction and widespread use of electronic and ultrasound endoscopes. In the future, it will be important to evolve next-generation technologies that combine AI and information systems, in addition to the fusion of expert human skills and robot technology. The fields in which endoscopy can be used are unlimited.
We would like to ask the young doctors of the world, who will lead the next generation, for their understanding and cooperation with the activities of WEO in spreading excellent endoscopic medicine on global scale.
Honorary lectures play a significant role at ENDO congresses. Three lectures are presented by representatives appointed by WEO's three zones, the Asia-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE), the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the Inter-American Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED). At ENDO 2024, there is an additional invited lecture to be held by the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
The Honorary Lectures, delivered by luminaries in the field of GI endoscopy and gastroenterology, will be a highlight of ENDO 2024.
ENDO 2024 ABSTRACT AWARDS
The Scientific Committee received 937 abstracts for this World Congress.
The authors of these three abstracts received free registration as well as travel grants for those able to attend in person and were invited to present their abstracts as oral presentations at the ENDO 2024 Opening Symposium on the first day of the Congress. World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) also provided 27 further grants to authors of top-ranked abstracts, 45 years of age and younger.
Authors of other 55 top-ranked abstracts, excluding those already selected as WEO awardees, received free registration and travel grants to attend the Congress, and were invited to a special ceremony at ENDO 2024 to recognize their work. ENDO 2024 is grateful to the following societies for providing the travel grants to encourage young doctors to travel and share their research.
