Abstract
Early marginal periodontitis is the only reversible form of periodontitis that does not require an aggressive and technically complicated treatment, but which still requires an adequate and complex therapy. In medical literature, various natural remedies are recommended in the treatment of early marginal periodontitis. Among the less studied, we, among others, selected the remedy based on propolis. Propolis tincture has proven anti-inflammatory, regenerating, antimicrobial, antibacterial and anaesthetic properties, which are welcome and important in the complex treatment of early marginal periodontitis. Materials and methods: After a session of debridement, cotton strips soaked with propolis tincture are applied in the gingival sulcus. The procedure is repeated daily for five days. Assessment of the results: The results of the treatment are evaluated according to the dynamics of the changes in the gingival index (GI) of Löe and Silnes (1963) and the changes in the composition of the microbial morphological forms in the contents of the gingival sulcus.
