Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate the aftereffect of different metabolic inhibitor and antibiotic and surfactant addition in the optimized fermentation media and their respective impact in the process of Ni(II) decontamination from aqueous solution in a batch process using Ni(II) resistant S. cerevisiae AJ208. Mercurus nitrite (10-1 mol/L) as metabolic inhibiter showed the highest inhibitory effect on Ni(II) removal as it dropped to 55%, whereas Chloramphenicol (5X10-5 g/ml) proved to be the best antibiotic as it depressed biosorption of Ni(II) by declining cellular growth up to 52.66% at 48 hours. Tween 80 (0.01 g/ml) acted as the best surfactant and improved biosorption by up to 97%.
