2023 gifts to higher education near all‐time high, data show

Charitable gifts to U.S. higher education institutions topped out at $58 billion in 2023, not quite keeping pace with the all‐time high totals from 2022, when some $59.5 billion was donated to the higher education sector, according to new research from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. While the 2023 figure represents a 2.5% decline from 2022, or $1.5 billion, it demonstrates continued significant philanthropic support to the important higher education sector, CASE said.
