The results showed that the urinary BPA concentration was negatively correlated with the sperm concentration (β coefficient = -0.03; 95% CI: -0.06 to -0.01; I2 = 0.0%, p = 0.003) and total sperm count (β coefficient = -0.05; 95% CI: -0.08 to -0.02; I2 = 0.0%, p < 0.001). In addition, BPA concentrations were associated with increased sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels, increased estradiol (E2) levels, and reduced biologically active androgen levels. However, the relationship between an increased risk of below-reference sperm quality and BPA exposure was not robust.
