Abstract

RESUMO O artigo trata da história da educação feminina cearense com ênfase na formação para o magistério no curso normal na cidade de Fortaleza. Objetivou compreender a formação para o magistério no início do século XX no Colégio da Imaculada Conceição com base na biografia da educadora Alba de Mesquita Frota. Constatou que a biografada usufruiu boa formação no Colégio da Imaculada Conceição, privilégio concedido às moças da elite econômica. Suas práticas renderam-lhe certa proeminência, pois a mulher foi homenageada com a denominação da primeira pré-escola cearense.
