The SPH model is validated using available experimental data. Secondary atomization is characterized by using size distributions for different fuels. The resulting droplets vary in size, where secondary droplets are mostly below 7 µm in diameter. Following these cases, this paper qualitatively describes the impact process and proposes empirical correlation relating the mean secondary droplet size to ambient pressure in the film-boiling regime.
