The effectiveness of the Mucosept for the treatment of radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis in head and neck cancer patients: A multicenter randomized controlled trial

Abstract

Оральный мукозит (ОМ) — наиболее распространенное осложнение онкологической терапии у пациентов с поражением в области головы и шеи. Развитие ОМ сопровождается болевыми симптомами, приводящими к ухудшению психоэмоционального состояния и снижению качества жизни. Особо тяжело для онкологических больных протекает ОМ, индуцированный лучевой терапией. В дополнение к базовому оральному уходу нами была разработана фитокомпозиция Мукосепт для ополаскивания рта.  Пациенты контрольной группы (n=21) применяли для полоскания только 5%-ный раствор гидрокарбоната натрия. Пациенты основной группы (n=21) дополнительно применяли настой Мукосепта. Качество жизни изучали по опроснику EORTC QLQ-HN43 в начале исследования и через 1 месяц. В основной группе выявлено статистически достоверно значимое улучшение таких показателей опросника, как «Боль во рту», «Глотание», «Ксеростомия и вязкость слюны» и «Речь» (p<0,05). С учетом ограничений исследования определен положительный эффект применения фитокомпозиции Мукосепт на качество жизни онкобольных с поражением в области головы и шеи и сопутствующим осложнением в виде ОМ, индуцированного лучевой терапией. Oral mucositis (OM) is the most common complication of oncologic therapy in patients with lesions in the head and neck region. The progression of OM is accompanied by painful symptoms leading to deterioration of psycho-emotional state and reduction of quality of life. OM induced by radiation therapy is especially severe for cancer patients. In addition to the basic oral care we have developed phytocomposition Mucosept for mouthwash. . Patients of the control group (n=21) used only 5% sodium hydrogen carbonate solution for rinsing. Patients of the main group (n=21) additionally used Mucosept infusion. Quality of life was studied by EORTC QLQ-HN43 questionnaire at the beginning of the study and after 1 month. . The main group showed statistically significant improvement of such questionnaire indicators as “Pain in the mouth”, “Swallowing”, “Xerostomia and saliva viscosity” and “Speech” (p<0,05). . Taking into account the limitations of the study, the positive effect of the use of phytocomposition Mucosept on the quality of life of cancer patients with head and neck lesions and concomitant complication in the form of OM induced by radiation therapy was determined.
