Abstract

The article discusses the relevance of using pop-up booms on rivers, including in the presence of ice cover. An assessment of existing solutions was carried out and an improved model of a pop-up boom with increased holding capacity was proposed. The work provides a calculation to determinethe shape of a pop-up boom to avoid the formation of unacceptable «pockets», and also derives the relationship between the diameter of the buoyancy chamber of a pop-up boom and the minimum permissible thickness of the ice cover to prevent mixing of ice and oil.
