Abstract

End-of-life doulas represent a novel practise in the area of end-of-life care in Quebec, while being common in other eras and cultures. A non-medical ally who supports families during the end-of-life process—which can endure for months or even years—is known as an end-of-life doula. Since 2016, Douglas College in British Columbia has provided a training course for potential end-of-life doulas. The face-to-face or online format is adaptable and accessible. The author of this essay briefly explains the function of end-of-life doulas and shares her own experiences at Douglas College.
