Abstract

Abstract Through carnival’s protagonism and positioning within the metropolis, Orfeu Negro defamiliarizes the urban experience and depicts urban modernity as a hellish force through its imagery of confinement, tension-filled editing schemes, vertical framing and an aesthetics of darkness.
