Abstract
This study aims to develop an education model which combines education and mindfulness to achieve environmental competency using pretest-posttest control group design. The intervention given to the experimental group was built with social learning theory and adapted to the environment and socio-culture of Jakarta, Indonesia. Due to Indonesia’s status as one of Asia's largest marine debris disposal countries and Indonesia's open dumping garbage disposal scheme, there is a heightened urgency to reduce the national waste volume. Considering that the growing population is of productive age and educated demographic, education can now be seen as a practical solution, not just idealistic. Our experiment demonstrates that while education is insufficient in influencing pro-environmental behaviour, education and mindfulness simultaneously can cultivate and sustain environmental competency.
