Abstract

The aim of this study is to understand the phenomenon of using colloquial language in military communication with power dynamics as an interactional function. In a military environment, the use of colloquial or informal everyday language can be an effective tool for fostering camaraderie and strengthening bonds among military personnel. This research was conducted by analyzing relevant literature and involving military members. The data in this study consists of words and sentences spoken by speakers in video footage. The research employed a descriptive analysis technique, which involved (1) presenting the data, (2) summarizing the data, and (3) drawing conclusions. The findings of the research indicate that the use of colloquial language in the military context can help create social bonds among military personnel. By using unique phrases or words specific to the military environment, military personnel can feel more connected to one another, enhance the sense of togetherness, and build a strong group identity. Additionally, within the military environment, hierarchy and power dynamics are important factors.
