Abstract

This study aimed to examine the association among peer attachment, self-esteem, sense of community and happiness, and the multiple mediating role of self-esteem and sense of community in the relationship between peer attachment and happiness. For this purpose, the data were obtained from a representative sample comprising 6th graders who participated in the 13th year of the ‘Panel study on Korean children(2020)’. A total of 1,359 questionnaires were analyzed through correlation, regression, and mediation analyses. The results revealed significant positive correlations among study variables. Regarding overall happiness the results showed the serial multiple mediation effects of self-esteem and sense of community. Concerning life satisfaction the results showed that self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between peer attachment and life satisfaction. The findings highlight the importance of peer attachment in enhancing happiness and suggest to utilize self-esteem and sense of community in the counseling and intervention for children at-risk with low level of happiness.
