Oral osteosarcoma

Abstract

The aim of this article is to report a case of mandibular osteosarcoma of the soft tissue retromolar region, a rare pathological condition. We describe a 32-year-old caucasian male who presented with a left mandibular retromolar mass and odinophagy. Histopathologic study revealed an epithelioid tumor with production of bone and cartilage and focal formation of osteoid. The diagnosis was extraskeletal osteosarcoma of the jaw. The literature on this unusual pathologic entity is reviewed and the diagnostic challenge described.
