Abstract

A new type of single screw extruder has been developed that consists of 8–10 small extruder barrels, parallel to the main screw axis. The manufacturer claims that this design offers an extremely efficient devolatilization or degassing of the polymer melt. The system is well suited to the processing of highly contaminated polymers, such as post-consumer waste, and in particular for the processing of PET.
