Abstract
Essential unsaturated fatty acids have became the focus of many research in recent years. Their cardioprotective effect involvement in metabolic programming were demonstrated, but also their influence on the course of psychiatric disorders such as depression or schizophrenia. They are also involved in the aetiopathogenesis of dermatological conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Their supply in the daily diet appears to be indispensable and their importance in maintaining homeostasis is crucial. However, there is still a need to confirm their influence and role in the course of certain diseases. The study aimed to present the importance and role of fatty acids in the course of selected inflammatory and psychiatric diseases, as well as the cardioprotective effects of their supply.
