Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze spatial changes necessary to conduct integrated education for kindergartens affiliated to elementary schools. The study targets the kindergarten affiliated to Daegu Bulo Elementary School, which operates the first fully integrated education as a kindergarten affiliated to elementary school. Field surveys and interview surveys were conducted on the remodeling space. The most inconvenient part of using the elementary school building as a kindergarten facility was using the restroom that was far away from the classroom. In particular, toilets must be planned indoors in order to provide integrated education in which disabled and general infants “living” together. Thus, the spaces were remodeled for integrated education. The results are as follows. First, the restroom was placed indoors using the corridor space, and the ceiling height was lowered for infants to secure loft space. Second, it was designed to be accessible to the restroom from each classroom, stimulating the interest of infants by connecting to the indoor space, not function just as a sanitary space. Third, when infants use restroom far from classrooms, the psychological anxiety felt by teachers disappeared, and they are satisfied with the relocation of restroom in indoor spaces.
