Abstract
Music therapy in mainstream schools is not well established in German-speaking countries. In the present pilot study, a collaborative therapeutic songwriting project was initiated with adolescents 11 to 12 years of age, at a grammar school. The aim of the research project was to support adolescents in their psycho-social development and to create a prevention service during the corona pandemic. Focus was placed on the young people’s mental associations and the question as to which group-dynamic and personal processes and feelings they went through and expressed, during the project period. Guided expert interviews with 12 of the 14 participants were to answer the research questions. The resulting song texts, as well as the interviews, were evaluated using qualitative content analysis. The results show thematic references to world events, lifestyle and developmental tasks of adolescence and additionally show a diverse spectrum of feelings and experiences in the process.
