Abstract

Currently, there has been a growing international interest in Chinese science fiction literature due to its captivating mixture of scientific imagination and profound humanistic sentiments. In light of the domestication and foreignization translation theory, this study aims to scrutinize the employment of translation strategies in the English subtitles of the science fiction film named The Wandering Earth. The culturally-loaded words in the scientific film can be categorized into three categories: politics, life and philosophy. The majority of English translations in this film largely align with the principles of domestication and foreignization, with a few exceptions. By offering valuable insights into the translation of culturally-loaded words, this study intends to inspire and guide future translations of Chinese science fiction literature.
