Abstract

ABSTRACT: This essay examines the degree to which Newman understood beauty to serve religious as opposed to aesthetic purposes. It specifically considers how Newman's "idea" of beauty is ultimately that which transcends taste and pleasing, sense experience. It is an objective reality in its own right which can aid the person who seeks holiness.
