FEATURES OF STATISTICAL RECORDS IN THE ETHNIC PERIPHERY OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN THE LATE 19Th AND EARLY 20th CENTURIES (BASED ON MATERIALS FROM REGIONAL STATISTICAL COMMITTEES IN THE KAZAKH STEPPE)

Abstract

The paper examines the features of statistical records in the ethnic periphery of the Russian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the materials of the regional statistical committees of the Governor-Generalship of the Steppes. Based on the analysis of identified sources and systematized research, the author reveals the challenges encountered by the regional statistical services. Taking into account the specifics of the periphery’s administrative structure and nomadic farm lifestyle, the paper describes how statistical recording services adapted their census forms.
