Abstract

This study examined technical skills required by Heads for management of Business Education Programme in Tertiary Institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of the study, two research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literature was reviewed based on the variables of the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprises 139 business educators including Heads of Department or Heads of Units in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, who were all involved in the study due to the manageable size of the population. A 16 item questionnaire titled “Technical Skills Required for Management of Business Education Programme Questionnaire” (TSRMBEQ) was used for data collection. The TSRMBEQ was validated by three (3) experts and .73 Cronbach Alpha Reliability Estimate was the overall reliability index for the instrument. 139 copies of the questionnaire were administered and 137 copies were successfully retrieved. The data collected were analysed using mean (X) and Standard Deviation (SD) to answer the research questions. Similarly, the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using independent t-test. The findings from data analysis showed that technical and financial management skills are required by Heads for management of Business Education Programme in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria.
