Economic security assessment of the Magadan region

Abstract

The article considers the existing methodological approaches to assessing the economic security of the region. The review of methods showed that they differ from each other in terms of the indicators involved in assessment, their threshold values, and methods used to analyze the selected indicators Taking into account the fact that economic security is a specific historical category, the article proposes, when selecting indicators for evaluation, to rely on the current regulatory legal acts that determine direction of the Russia's socio-economic development and are related to different aspects of economic security. In accordance with the proposed approach, the article developed a system of indicators of economic security of the region and their threshold values. The choice as a base document for the formation of a system of indicators of the «Decree on the national goals of Russia until 2030» seems reasonable since it is precisely on ensuring national interests that the “National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation” is built. Based on the developed system of indicators, assessment of the economic security of the Magadan Region was carried out, and the main risk zones were identified. The main threat to economic security of the Magadan region is associated with demographic indicators and indicators that reflect the quality of life in the region.
