Abstract

A new dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for the upstream channel of EPONs is proposed. In contrast to the existing competitive approaches, a standard prediction mechanism along with a judicious mix of QoS awareness and fairness in resource allocation is adopted in our approach. Via simulations we show that the proposed scheme offers an increase in overall system throughput while maintaining the mean packet delay and loss rate below the maximum permitted upper bounds.
