A tool based on a formal approach for object-oriented database modeling and design

Abstract

A formal approach for object-oriented database modeling and design is presented. It is based on the IFO/sub 2/ model, an extension of the semantic model IFO defined by S. Abiteboul and R. Hull (1987). The approach is illustrated through the mapping formalization of the IFO/sub 2/ model into the O/sub 2/ model. This work, supported by an External European Research Project in collaboration with Digital Equipment Corporation, comes within the scope of a larger project whose aim is to realize a computer aided system for advanced applications modeling and design.
