Ethical and social issues behind brain-computer interface

Abstract

In accordance with the rapid growing of the brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies, there have been great concerns on researches and their practical applications in terms of the ethical and social issues. In this paper, we first briefly introduce the state-of-the-art BCI technologies such as brain speller, brain-actuated wheelchair, person authentication, robot-arm control, and neuro-rehabilitation. We then discuss the ethical and social issues and ethical principles emphasizing the necessity of the users' engagement in those issues.
