Idle Running Losses in Medium Voltage Overhead Power Lines

Abstract

This article examines the issue of Idle Running Losses in Medium Voltage Overhead Power Lines. Experimental measurements are performed. Based on the results of the measurements, a convenient empirical model is proposed for the calculation of transversal (conductance) losses during the operation of the distribution overhead power lines. Numerical examples are presented, and important implications are discussed.
