Abstract
For code-reference ultrawideband (CR-UWB) transmission, a train of spreading code modulated UWB impulses is transmitted as a pilot along with other series of data and spreading code-modulated UWB impulses. The cross-correlation between the spreading code for the pilot and the data has to be low (ideally zero). The conventional reception method of the CR-UWB relies on different variants of energy detection techniques. These techniques show poor performance in low SNR, strong interference and multiuser scenarios. We present a novel method for the detection of CR-UWB using a comb filter based rake-like receiver. The implementation of the comb filter in the receiver solves all the problems in the conventional techniques. Coherent combination of receiving impulses is performed at the comb filter, and therefore the SNR gain from transmitting several impulses per symbol is achievable. Moreover, the comb filter suppresses interference from multiuser transmission and from other systems. The improvement in performance is verified through simulation results in different scenarios.
