Abstract
The Brazilian prison system is marked by precariousness, overcrowding of cells and poor conditions of structure, hygiene and food. Thus, this study aims to analyze which types of food are allowed to enter a female prison located in northeastern Brazil, second degree of processing. The study was conducted in a female prison located in the city of Cajazeiras, where data relating to age, years of study and the presence of chronic diseases of 33 convicted in a closed regime were collected. It was also performed the survey of food allowed to enter the prison, which were categorized according to the degree of processing, using the classification of the Brazilian Food Guide. The presence of 30 types of food in the list was verified. Although vegetables are listed as all allowed, most foods are processed and ultra-processed, especially the latter, which total 12 products, including sausages, soft drinks, noodles, juice powder, among others. This way, the list of food allowed to enter the prison is integrated by an excessive amount of processed and ultra-processed food, which can put the apenadas in risk to health.
