Abstract

The next-generation cars require high speed on-board communication networks. The latest amendment to IEEE 802.3TM specifies a gigabit plastic optical fiber-based communication standard for automotive. New use cases, where optical communications are the most suitable choice, are described along with OEM's requirements for multi-gigabit future standards.
