Abstract
We present the concept and realization of a novel radar target simulator, based on a modulated-reflector radar system. The concept shows how low-cost modulated reflectors can be combined to an enhanced reflector. The new concept is able to generate a virtual target for continuous-wave and frequency-modulated continuous-wave based radar systems at user-selectable ranges with the capability to dynamically adjust the desired radar cross section and relative velocity. Furthermore the low-cost realization allows for the utilization of multiple of these novel reflectors, giving the unique opportunity to generate a test environment with virtual targets at defined angles.
