Abstract
This paper describes a smart system based on the Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) and conceived within the SENERGY Project for worker safety applications. An RFID tracking system allows to monitor the worker position during the maintenance activities on machinery assemblies, thanks to a synthetic-array approach. The reader antenna moves above the machinery assembly area through a 3D-axis cartesian portal. The worker equipped with several passive UHF-RFID tags is tracked in real-time with errors comparable with body sizes, thus improving the safety and health requirements of the system.
