Abstract
This paper outlines the basis of a novel adaptive autoreclosure scheme and describes preliminary investigation in the design and application of this technique. This new technique is based on defining and identifying the waveform patterns of tlie voltage transients following initial breaker opening. It has the ability to distinguish between a permanent and a transient fault, and to optimize the reclosure time. Included within the proposed adaptive autoreclosure scheme, an emphasis is placed on detailed simulations of the whole process of fault autoreclosure sequences with the incorporation of realistic arc models to assess the performance of the proposed adaptive Single Pole Autoreclosure (SPAR) scheme. In the conclusion, tlie paper presents some interesting simulation results relating to a 500kV system subjected to various transient and permanent fault conditions.
