Abstract

In recent years, network traffic growth leads to large consumption of energy in data centers. Researchers are looking to find effective solutions for virtual machine (VM) migration to reduce the energy consumption under given quality of service constraints. The most of research considered live VM migration to aim to shorten the average completion time, as that minimizes the power during VM migration. However, existing energy efficient VM migration methods do not consider energy consumption of the network devices during migration. In this paper, we propose to apply time-constrained file transfer method to energy efficient VM migration.
