Abstract
An intermediate Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control algorithm is used to extract maximum power from the photovoltaic (PV) system. Among various traditional MPPT algorithms Perturb and Observe (P&O) is widely employed because of low cost and simple implementation. In P&O scheme, fixed step size perturbation consumes much time to track Maximum Power Point (MPP). Steady state power loss associated with P&O MPPT is high due to oscillations of operating point around MPP. To overcome the demerits associated with P&O scheme, this paper proposes a simple and efficient MPPT scheme using a 2-Dimensional Lookup Table. The results show that the proposed method has better steady state performance, accuracy and efficiency. Mathematical modeling of PV module, dc-dc converter and MPPT algorithms are given in detail.
