Abstract
This article describes the development of the 25-item Assertive Job Hunting Survey, an instrument designed to assess self-reported job-hunting attitudes. This survey meets acceptable standards for internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = .82) and stability (test/retest correlation = .77 over a two-month period). Two separate groups of students have demonstrated statistically significant increases in Assertive Job Hunting Survey scores from beginning to end of four-week classes designed to apply the concept of assertiveness to job-hunting behaviors. The results of these studies also indicated that sex and previous job-hunting experience affected scores. Becker discusses potential uses of the survey and possible directions for future research.
