Abstract
This paper investigates the steady-state characteristics of 3-phase cage induction machines that use two series-connected and one isolated (TSCAOI) phase winding configuration to generate single phase electricity. In this configuration, one phase-winding excites the machine while the remaining two in series generate electricity at constant frequency under varying rotor speeds. The steady-state model, which is derived using symmetrical components, provides a clear insight into the behavior of the generator in TSCAOI configuration. Simulated steady state characteristics of a 3 kW, 4-pole generator are presented under various operating conditions to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed model.
