Abstract

- Within the quasi-optical approach, we investigate the dynamic of excitation of azimuthally-symmetric TM modes in a relativistic surface-wave oscillator (SWO) with oversized cylindrical waveguide. We outline the two operation regimes, namely, the n-mode excitation regime and the regime of backward surface wave oscillator. Based on theoretical considerations, we demonstrate the viability of practical realization of relativistic SWS with a power level of up to 100 MW in the sub-THz wavelength band.
