Abstract

is to the in the centre of debate within the Union to which extend European Commission’s mandate in the TTIP negotiations with the USA in the sphere of audio-visual services should be restricted. Looking for the ideological, cultural and economic justification for the exceptional status of cultural goods in international trade, in the article there are presented not only European regulations concerning the cultural diversity protection, but also the specificity of the European and American audio-visual sectors. The course of the debate on the meaning of cultural exception enables critical view on the positive influence of trade liberalization on social welfare as well as on European and American activities in the sphere of cultural in their political background.
