Apart of improving power quality of line current waveform, this approach allows output DC voltage control without any additional regulation circuits to regulate the output voltage to the desired value. An active power filter using boost rectifier topology is utilized to force the line current to follow the sinusoidal reference current. This reference current is employed to shape the line current waveform and regulate the output voltage by controlling its amplitude. The range of the minimum and maximum amplitude values of reference current variation which corresponding to the output DC voltage are also investigated. Abstract

This paper presents an active power filter with direct output voltage control function of single-phase AC-DC converter. This configuration is capable to improve power-factor and also to reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) of line current. Apart of improving power quality of line current waveform, this approach allows output DC voltage control without any additional regulation circuits to regulate the output voltage to the desired value.
