Scarcity Indices for the European Electricity Markets

Abstract

This paper describes and demonstrates indicators that have been developed on the basis of the data available on ENTSO-E”s transparency platform and it discusses the market information that can be derived from them. The paper demonstrates how the indices that are developed provide for the unique possibility to continuously oversee the short-term European market situation in its entirety. It discusses the suitability of a domestic supply margin to reflect market prices.
