Abstract
The main problem of this research is to analyze how and with what arguments the psychoanalytic elements in the films selected from two different countries are used. Within the scope of Turkish and American horror films, the films named Siccin 5 (2013) and The Conjuring (2018) were chosen in accordance with the purposive sampling, considering that they would represent the universe. As a result of the historical origin of horror cinema and the effect of culture on the horror cinema genre, it is thought that psychoanalytic concepts take place in the films Siccin 5 and The Conjuring. These films were preferred because they are the most watched films in their countries and they are sequels. With the emergence of the horror genre, different types of fear have also been shaped as a result of cultural codes and religious references. In the selected films, the togetherness of the relationship between religion and psychology is also discussed in the cultural context. Psychoanalysis is used to analyze hidden, repressed thoughts. In this context, films are accepted as cases in psychoanalytic film criticism. Evaluated in the context of the relationship between film and subconscious, sample films are based on the doctrines of Freud and Lacan, such as dream, subconscious, Oedipus Complex, symbolic/imaginary/real, etc. analyzed in terms of concepts. As a result of the research; that films from two different countries have similar psychoanalytic characteristics; but it has been understood that the horror characters used in the movie are different in terms of places, actors, cultural and religious references. With this research, it has been concluded that the two films selected as samples can be interpreted through common psychoanalytic concepts.
