Abstract

In this work we present a novel concept for the next generation intelligent wireless sensing application where a universal remote control is implemented to govern different electronic devices inside a room with least effort. The so called Wireless Access to Numerous Destinations (WAND)-Pointer is an electronic device with an integrated inertial and distance measurement unit. The WAND-Pointer identifies the specifictarget by aiming the pointer in the desired direction. The effort of selecting a specific device by pressing a switch button on a universal remote control is no longer necessary. The WAND-Pointer is an effective solution in scenarios where elderly people have identification problems when forced to handle numerous control devices.
