Comparing GIR system with existing technology, this joint system has some advantages such as high stiffness, high strength, convenient manufacture and good appearance etc., so it has received broad attention recently. Previously, many studies and experiments have been carried out, and this system is widely adapted for many kinds of timber structure. In our laboratory GIR joint system using steel rod has been developed since 1993. To study the strength properties of this type of GIR joint system, many experiment of tension, shearing and bending to this system were carried out, respectively. From these results, we proposed the calculation method of strength in case of the system subject to the simple stress. However, in actual structure the simple stress state is rare, the complex stress state almost exist. On the other hand, to adapt GIR joint system to multi-story timber building, it is necessary to make the calculation method of strength in case of the system subjected to complex stress.
